What does functional safety mean in rail applications?

Functional safety refers to the protection of technical systems against systematic and accidental errors that could lead to dangerous situations - especially in safety-critical railroad control and monitoring systems.

Which standards does ICS GmbH take into account during implementation?

We work strictly in accordance with the railroad standards EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128/ EN50716 /IEC 62279 (software), EN 50129 (signaling technology) and EN 50159 (communication). Our solutions are also based on the CENELEC process and the"basic integrity"safety levels to SIL 4.

Which applications does ICS GmbH cover?

Our solutions are ideal for ETCS, ERTMS, PZB, LZB, level crossing protection, interlockingtechnology, train control systems and other safety-critical components and applications.

What is the VDB?

The German Railway Industry Association (VDB) is the central trade association of the German railroad industry. It was founded on April 1, 1877 and emerged from the Association of German Locomotive Factories.

What is UNIFE?

UNIFE (Union des Industries Ferroviaires Européennes) is the umbrella organization of the European railroad industry based in Brussels. It was founded in 1991 and since 1992 has represented over 100 large and medium-sized companies in Europe's rail supply industry that are active in the design, manufacture, maintenance and refurbishment of rail transportation systems, subsystems and accessories.

What is ISO?

ISO stands for the International Organization for Standardization. It develops globally valid standards, e.g. ISO 26262 for functional safety in the automotive industry or ISO/IEC 27001 for information security. Many railroad standards are also structurally based on ISO principles.

What is CEN?

CEN is the European Committee for Standardization (Comité Européen de Normalisation). It develops European standards (EN) in various technical areas - including railroad technology. Railway-specific standards such as EN 50126 or EN 50128 are managed under CEN, usually in cooperation with CENELEC (for electrical engineering).

What does EN mean?

EN stands for European Standard. EN standards are published by European standardization organizations such as CEN or CENELEC. In rail technology, EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 / EN 50716 (software) or EN 50129 (safety verification) are particularly relevant - they form the safety framework for all European rail projects.

What is DKE?

DKE stands for the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies within DIN and VDE. The DKE is the national standardization body for electrotechnical standards in Germany and is involved in international standards (e.g. IEC, EN). It plays an important role in the national implementation of European railroad standards in Germany.
